My work is reflective of my intention to produce thought-provoking ambiguity, using the female form as the starting point. The introduction of an implied narrative through the use of various props and sexual references has been paramount in this process. An implied narrative need not be spelt out by props, in fact the complete lack of props in some of my paintings can still engender a hidden narrative. The viewer must be led by their own interpretation.
In the final analysis the work is designed to ask questions of the viewer involving eroticism and voyeurism and how comfortable or not we feel when facing them. I have recently had an enforced rest from working at an easel and have enjoyed experimenting with various methods of firing and glazing ceramics, but still attempting to follow the former direction of my work – albeit that LAN is bound to widen this through experience.
