RomeThe Liminal Arts Network was founded by Anthony McIntosh in August 2006. It is a group of Sussex based artists whose studio practice encompasses a broad range of art disciplines that include painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, glasswork and photography. The focus is on group activity rather than merely exhibiting collectively. Members meet on a monthly basis at a variety of different locations across, and also outside of the county, responding to the atmosphere and physicality of the site.

The trips offer an opportunity to engage with challenging subject matter and for experimentation with unfamiliar materials. A wide range of places have been visited over the past few years. Other visits are made to major gallery exhibitions. Having a social function as well as a creative one, during the summer, painting and drawing is usually combined with a beach barbecue at Cooden Beach.

BerlinIn addition they make an annual five day visit abroad; after previous trips to Berlin and Rome, this year they are going to Budapest. Responding to such different sites and visiting various exhibitions and museums ensures a rich and eclectic context for the work which is made all the more interesting by the use of a wide selection of materials, techniques and processes.

There are no specific criteria for becoming a member of LAN, merely a commitment to engage with the aims of the activity days. The group exhibitions are held at least annually and are often themed. In general, to exhibit with the group you must have attended at least six of the previous twelve activity days before the show.

If you would like to be informed of our activities and perhaps join us, please request that your email address be added to our distribution list. If, subsequently, you do not attend any activity days within any six month period, your address will be removed from the list.
